The Third Annual Santa Clara County Children's Summit will bring together community leaders to forge new partnerships, work across boundries in order to achieve the goal of the Children's Agenda: Every child safe, healthy, successful in learninig, successful in life. Summit Chairmen: Program: Our Breakout Workgroups will feature Santa Clara County models of organizations working together across boundaries to improving results for children. The Bold Steps for Children Award will be presented to a local philanthropist and to a community partnership that has achieved results for children. Children's Bill of Rights: The Children's Summit will also dedicate a portion of the program to the introduction and signing of the Children’s Bill of Rights. High School Journalists Invitation: The Children’s Summit will also be inviting high school journalists to attend the conference in order to learn about the issues facing children in their community and participate in a journalism contest to write about these issues. They will also have an opportunity to attend a special session with our keynote speaker to discuss how to utilize social media to “get the story”, framing stories that deal with social issues and making a career as a journalist today.

Keynote Speaker: A proud alumnus of Mountain View High School and San Francisco State University , Jose Antonio Vargas is the Technology and Innovations editor of the Huffington Post. Previously, he was a national political reporter for the Washington Post, where he broke new ground with his in-depth coverage of the Internet's impact on politics. He also wrote about video game culture and race and demographics, among other topics, and his 2006 series on HIV/AIDS in Washington inspired a feature-length documentary, The Other City, slated for release next year. In 2008, he won a Pulitzer Prize as part of a team that covered the Virginia Tech massacre. A newspaper reporter for 11 years, he's also written for the Philadelphia Daily News and the San Francisco Chronicle, and has appeared on CNN, MSNBC and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
